As today, March 21st is the last day for the instillation to be UP, I thought I'd post my photos from "Melt - an installation on thin ice"

From a note card

"If the world were clear, art would not exist."
-Jorge Luis Borges

Artists absorb the world around them. Their environments, that which they can feel and touch and see - and that which they can't. Sometimes that which they can only dream of. They absorb it and translate it into a language that affects us all in some way.

This project is a study of translations. I presented 25 artists within Second Life with a concept of creating art with these words in mind: Drowning. Melting. Polar bears. Arctic. Culpability. Corporate greed. Inevitability. Extinction.

What they have done is breathtaking and beyond any realm of my expectations.

Welcome to Melt - Please explore and involve yourself in this temporary world created here. Interact with it, wear it, enjoy it and immerse yourself in it.

Melt is only open March 6 - March 21, Please feel free to share your experience by adding your snapshots to the Mirror Installations Flickr group: http://www.flickr.com/groups/melt installations/

Thank you

I found the installation to be very calming and beautiful in its own way. I would have loved to learned more about the thought process behind some of the features. Like, why do the polar bears have batteries on their stomach? ANd the ice floats have eyeballs? Things like that.

I wore a blue dress, which is a recreation of Alice's dress from the new movie. THe color worked QUITE well with the rest of the sims colors I think.

Now onto my photos..

I could not get good pulled back from the sim areal views as the instillation was surrounded on all sides by prims to give it special atmosphere So, we'll just start with where I landed when I Teleported in..

Not much really..I'm underwater

Shots above water

Up close with the polar bears!

SEEE Batteries! WHY!?! The fae Kitty wants to know!

These Ice burgs and the bear are "outside of sim" objects. Things anchored to the sim by a long invisible prim that then places the objects outside of the sim borders where you can't get to them.

Laying on one of the several drifting burgs.

Anndd...wait..what's that on the burg?

EYEBALL!! WTF?!?!? I looked all over to make sure I wasn't on a critter and nope, just a random eyeball on the burgs.

About the sim are many bubble sets that pose you as if your drowning..I suppose this would look way better if my gown moved with my body instead of always pointing DOWN.

What I THOUGHT was going to have explanations of things, turned into just a small store with items themed to the instillation.

Chilling with a bear

More drowning poses

When you walked on the ice, it cracked, loudly. It took me a bit to figure out where the sound was coming from before I saw the ice cracking.

I meant to go back in mer form to take some shots then changed my mind about it.

If you see this in time hurry hurry and go see it before it vanishes at midnight!
